History of Miracles Baseball Academy

The history of The Houston Miracles Baseball Academy dates back to 1999.

Miracles Baseball Academy is the invention of Mike Harris, a former professional baseball player, coach and scout for the St. Louis Cardinals & Chicago White Sox, and former coach at a Christian university. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Pastoral Counseling & Sports Psychology with a minor in Biblical Studies. For over 25 years, he has been a pioneer in the baseball community by performing various camps, coaches clinics, and private and group instruction in the Houston area and nationally. He also acts as a liaison and consultant for various schools and universities, amateur and professional ball clubs, religious organizations, and others.

The creation of Miracles Baseball was centered on the "Total Player" concept, an innovative idea involving more than teaching and improving baseball skills. This concept instead uses baseball and softball as a platform to construct young men and women who are well rounded in life's skills, the skills that our youth are desperately lacking.  This is done by providing camps and clinics, various life skills sessions, private and group lessons, travel teams, and an annual college conference/showcase.  See our Instructors link for staff credentials.

Mr. Harris and Miracles Baseball began their endeavour to strengthen our future in the fall of 1999 with the inaugural team consisting of sixteen year olds and under. Following their first season it was evident that the team needed a training facility to meet their baseball needs. As a result, the Miracles Baseball Academy of northwest Houston opened its doors in February of 2000. Two players from that inaugural team later played Professional baseball. The new indoor training facility paid immediate dividends as the team worked hard in the off-season and finished their first summer season sixth in the country at the Amateur Athletic Union National Invitational Tournament.

Since January 2010, Miracles has worked to carving out our next chapter of success. We continue to form generous partnerships with Champions Community Center and others.  These partnerships have yielded the donation of a plot of land for the construction of a first class field.  This field will be used to continue the expansion of our pioneer developmental program.  It will also benefit the inner city kids in our neighboring areas as we reach out to bring baseball to them.  Helping to provide a hope and opportunity for those who normally are passed by as we help them to shake hands with their futures.

The Miracles Advantage

The Miracles Baseball Academy helps young athletes pursue higher education with many earning college scholarships

300+ players have moved on to play for Junior College and University programs, along with 14 players drafted directly into professional baseball. Five players have made it to the Major League, Chris Young, Daryl Jones, 2 are Astros: J.R.Towles and Jason Bourgeous. Miracles held its first ever College Conference and Evaluation Showcase in December 2004 where college coaches and pro scouts from several states attended, spoke and held instructional clinics, games, plus skill evaluations along with Miracles staff. The event grew to coaches from all collegiate levels representing five states in December 2006 and has since then blossomed with much popularity. Three Miracles Alumni were drafted and signed contracts by the Pros in June 2013 (Jonathan Simms- Rice University, Jonathan Dziedzic- Lamar University, David Harris- Southern Arkansas University).
